Meanwhile -- to drag this more back on track with the comm -- what resources do you find most helpful with a white night? Are they different when you know you're never going to sleep, won't sleep for a long time yet, or woke up in the middle of the night?

Unhelpfully, I've never found anything particularly useful when I go insomniac. Slow breathing, warm milk drinks, getting up and doing something else, reading a book, physical activity before bed, playing simple repetitive games on my phone... if I'm up, then I'm up. I can take my mind off it by getting up and doing something else, but it doesn't get me to sleep any faster. It does improve my mood and feelings about the situation, though!

I have my room to myself *g*, so, yeah - internet, often, or a book. Being in the UK, I usually have US folk up in the middle of my night. In fact, when I went semi-nocturnal at the end of last year, I spent a lot of time listening to NHL hockey games broadcast over the Internet; in the season, there's usually at least one game on somewhere between midnight and 6am. Or #dw is always good, of course.
